Imagine a world where happiness
during distress is considered
a form of intelligence.
Because that’s where our society sits.
On a cliff. We watch each other
knowing it shouldn’t be like this, but it is.
We teach ourselves how to be led
by the sound of a bell, rather than by
our instincts, further dulling our true selves.
Imagine if we allowed our teachers
to push aside the benchmarks and
utilize their love for humanity,
which helped guide them to chase a dream
to help make a difference in our youth-
only to beat them down with regulations
and to steal their very voices from their throats.
What a shame it is to box up our best minds
only to box up more.

i’m a teacher who does not put the weight on benchmarks, but rather on the joy of curiosity, wonder, and love of learning.

Wow, powerful. I am a teacher and hope I don’t only focus on benchmarks. I have tried to encourage hope and success into those who are struggling academically. But I don’t always choose the curriculum. At times I do, and at times the schools have chosen it. Either way, I hope I have only helped. The positive feedback keeps me going.

I stand behind and back all of the educators such as yourself. The public system that has been put into place in my region (s) is what I reject. I have full faith that you deliver and exceptional experience for your students.

I’ve been in both. Right now, I teach online for a huge company—individual one-to-one. I work primarily with early childhood, and we read a lot of sci-fi, but I’ve taught history, literature, etc. I know what you mean by benchmarks and curriculum. We don’t always choose our material; and what we teach to the students. Right now, I am developing my curriculum, though. I’ve worked with all ages.

Thank you so much. The positive feedback helps. When I hear from parents that I helped their child through dyslexia or bad grades, it makes a world of difference, for example. Thank you again.

We need to stress emotional intelligence just as much as we do other forms of intelligence–understanding and having compassion for our fellow humans is a skill we sorely lack.

I have learnt from teachers and professors who really were such a guiding light for their students. This reminded me of some of their lessons😊
