Cut the negative out of your life, and thrive.

“I’ve read his writing. It’s not very good.”

This statement was made, concerning my writing, by a very toxic individual whom we’ve invited out of our lives as of last year. When told by a mutual friend that I have been published, again, and that I have a book signing at the end of the month, the above, was stated.

These are the kind of games narcissists play. They know the remark will be delivered.

However, I’m terrific at tearing narcissists apart. They fear me. The remark, an attempt to knock my achievements, is empty, hollow. As the saying goes, ‘Live well, and you’ll find success,’ I’ll certainly continue to do just that. I have a blessed life, with an unbreakable faith. I hope they find joy and feel no pain.

Here, was the ending of my post.

But in a serendipitous moment of time, it went on. With Karma leading the charge. Blaine’s comment literally came moments after I wrote the above.

“Thanks, Matt! I’ll have to take you up on that offer. 😃 You’ll have to pardon my sense of humor. You know how to word those situations in life where, something happens, then we’re looking around to see if anybody else just saw the same thing? Because, if I’m doing a double-take, then surely another eyewitness must be, too. 😉 I’m glad I found you and wordpress. Nice to find out a few others, did in fact, see what I saw. LOL” Blaine Thompson.

Blaine goes on-

“Your best friend said it best. It’s no wonder why your writing resonates with so many readers. I don’t know how many times I’ve read one of your entries and immediately a specific life experience appeared in my memory. And, there’s no way I could have found the words to paint the same picture myself. It’s awesome when the writing itself is superb, but it’s even better when it has some Socratic kind of punch behind it. Glad you share with all of us what comes from your pen.” Blaine Thompson

“I can’t wait to read what you have coming up. Whatever it is, we will all benefit. You’re doing a lot more than just sharing the aesthetics of words with all of us. You’re inspiring us all, too. I hope we can return the favor to you by reading and responding.” Blaine Thompson.

I don’t know how, Blaine, but you were tuned in. Cheers.

  1. Wow, Matt. I can’t tell you how humbled I am that you would include me in such a capture of your insights. In comparison, I am not a writer (not in the least). I’m just someone who has a high regard for the craft of writing. Years ago, just out of curiosity, I began to look into what it takes to actually become a bonafide published author. You, Matt, have not only gone through the process, but you have survived it and come out on top. You’ve endured the bruising that comes with the venture, and you have earned your place and passed all literary rite. I’m still sitting here dazed by the incredible gesture you have extended by having allowed me to take part in your latest creation. Humbled is the word I opened this paragraph with, and it is the word I will conclude it with. I truly am humbled.

    G’night all….

    • Some of the closest friends and family that I have, I admire and respect, largely because these people allow themselves to be who they are. I believe you have that quality. I see it in your blog posts and in the sincerity of your comments. You are real.

Thank you for the kind words of support. Writing is a way of life and a spiritual outlet for me. I need it. I need to do it.

Your comment, isn’t a comment, it’s much more. It’s a beautiful piece of literature that I hope you consider publishing on your blog. I feel selfish for this piece to only be a ‘comment’ on my blog. It’s an emotional and moving piece of writing.

I’m the one who is humbled. Thank you for this.

  2. Hi Matt,

I apologize for my delayed reply. I just sent you an email explaining what all I’ve had going on today. 😃

Matt, I, along with the rest of your readership, have to be grateful that writing IS a way of life for you. Reading your thoughts has become a way of life for me. I’m elated that when the pen calls, you answer. Your observations serve as a mirror. All I have to do is look into them and then I see decipherment given depiction. I can then see on canvas what needs to be painted, which is, “truth.”

And, I guess the beholder gets to decide which is worth more, a real penny, or a counterfeit one-hundred dollar bill? Intent might have something to do with the answer. But, I’m afraid probably all I so have to offer in life is a one cent view of the world. 😃 There’s no value in that view for anyone else outside of me. But, the expressed sentiment IS what’s actually there. I think what’s often misinterpreted with me is that, for example, if speaking about giving voice to the value that an individual has held in my life, then I’m supposed to be guilty of taking things too over the top. I’m not. I’ve always just thrown my heart into whatever I have been passionate about. And, I have NEVER thrown my heart into anything that I’ve been dispassionate about. 😃 In the case of genuinely caring about the heart of another, I guess I don’t know how to be dispassionate. Matt, you are gifted with taking what a mindful person thinks and you can describe the thought in vivid detail. In contrast, I guess as far as matters of the heart are concerned, I’m cursed with saying what is not supposed to be said out loud. 😉

And, maybe I need to do a damage control PSA at this point. 😃 To all of Matt’s readership, please don’t hold me against him. I could probably be called, “The Airplane Philosopher.” 😃 When I speak or think, all of the oxygen is taken out of the room. Oxygen masks have to fall from the ceiling so everyone can be rescued. 😃 If you have to take down this whole post, Matt, it’s ok by me. 😉 I seem to have a habit of being the trainer who is the very guy who actually walks the elephant right into the room. 😉

I appreciate your comments about my thank you post above. My words definitely belong in conjunction with those words of yours that initiated the beginning of your post. As far as posting my comments above on my blog? You’ve given me something to think about. So many questions to ask as to whether I should, since the biggest question is whether I should have posted what I have in the first place? I guess I was just trying to carve out one small patch of cyber real estate that will stand in perpetual commemoration to a certain human heart, all the while with time continuing to stream onward without pardon. The line of thinking was, as long as there is ONE small monument left behind, then the entire battle is not lost.

And, to beth and parneetsachdev, I thank you both for having dropped by my blog. Granted, it is not for everyone. 😉 It’s probably safe to say that I have NOT found my niche…..YET. 😃 Thanks again to you both.

And, to everyone else who dropped by my blog, I thank you for your courtesy and for giving of your time to take a look.

Matt, thanks again so very much. Don’t let my name tear down what you have worked so hard to build. I’ll always owe you for letting me be a part of your world for a day. The experience has been fantastic! At this point, I relinquish the stage. 😃

    G’night everyone.
