I was short with Gavin this morning.
I was thinking of what I needed to
accomplish throughout the day
instead of his best interest.
When I realized this, I turned
toward Gavin and said, “Gavin,
are you upset with me?”
Gavin nodded his head, yes.
I then asked, “Are you mad at me?”
He shook his head, yes.
I told him I understood why.
Then I said I was going to
calm down, talk more sweetly,
and that I was sorry.
I asked if he’d like to sit on
the couch with me for a few minutes.
He likes to sit next to me and put
his head on my shoulder while I drink
coffee. It’s the first thing we do every morning.
I realized I needed to reset the morning,
sideline what I needed, and focus on Gavin.
I believe the best way to help improve
our lives is to recognize when it’s time to
look in the mirror and adjust.

What a lovely reminder, as my 4-year old is begging to go outside and I am still typing away! 🙂 Outside we go.

I love that! Our 3.5 year old is sitting the wrong way in his chair, very disinterested in his lunch

Thank you, Isabelle. I think about how a few of my favorite authors seldom wrote about parenting. I try and touch on the topic from time to time.

Great reminder! I was thinking of something similar not too long ago. To lay down with Amore like we used to and forget the world for a moment. Reset. Adjust.
Great post!

Sono stato inadeguato con Gavin questa mattina.
Stavo pensando a ciò che dovevo
realizzare durante il giorno
invece del suo miglior interesse.
Quando me ne resi conto, mi voltai
verso Gavin e dissi: “Gavin,
sei arrabbiato con me?”
Gavin annuì, sì.
Poi ho chiesto: “Sei arrabbiato con me?”
Lui scosse la testa, sì.
Gli ho detto che ho capito perché.
Poi ho detto che mi stavo
calmando, parlando più dolcemente
e che mi dispiaceva.
Ho chiesto se gli piacerebbe sedersi sul
divano con me per qualche minuto.
Gli piace sedersi accanto a me e posare
guardarci allo specchio e adattarci.
ottimo racconto di vita Matt, te lo rubo
