We walk into the shadow of death to pull one wounded child from its depths, to find another daft man standing in the corner. Leaves are shuffling outside my window. A man with a golden heart is gone. Another stands in a room looking. Don’t block me. I am here and at least I have my fingers. The man in the room standing, looking daft, asks for silence because silences never questions. Never says a damn word. The girl with the golden brow would have cared for a word. And the boy with the covers pulled tight would have cared for the same.

watch the day grow with its green grass begging attention-
the ground, having swallowed some, urges for more
the New England birds are listening- waiting for approval
all the while one sits, alone, listening back
with a simple understanding-
now finally feeling the first
breeze of autumn air flirting with his skin
that brings him a sensation brimming with tears- he thinks out loud
‘Go ahead. Tell life it can’t.’

Measuring a thought in our head then we stopped and we said.
How do we do tonight.
thought.
a step backward we go. come with thought- pleads.
an anybody can kiss a shadow
it’s when an anybody’s shadow kisses them back
that we can finally be at peace

I can’t though.
my window is open.
fresh air,
nearly October air,
won’t let me.
It’s a nice reminder, this October air,
to lend my thoughts to memories

I’m writing a new book. I’ve noticed I’ve paused in the writing of it. Though, not for lack of material. I’ve plenty of that. It’s because it’s too important to get this right. I want to write so well it can’t go unnoticed. And to rush it, would be to ruin it. I’ve done that before. I need to remember the only rules to the writing of this book are the ones I place within myself.
Thanks for reading. I have snippets of time to publish poems on this platform, write the book, and comment back. So please, for me, have some fun today, and a drink (even juice) so you can mentally cheers me. I’ll need the push! Next spring we build our new house. A long time dream finally coming to fruition.
Matt
p.s. Most of my time is happily placed exactly where it ought to be.
I think the fractured people of this world have become the most intelligent. They have created their own rules inviting normalcy to be gone.
