This world is dependent upon us
yet does not love us
why else do we shiver during winter-
our coats never longer than the speaking tongues
lashing facts at our faces
and the sun beckons us to rise every day
while the ground is cold
Spring brings color. Quick thoughts of joy.
Summer finds the child shirtless and crying
with mud stained tears tormenting first
thoughts of understanding
the sun cannot stay
the leaves do drop
we tire during the months of fall
with its shadows
its crisp air touching our necks and lips
filling our lungs as we expel truth
they are all just boys
they are all just girls
looking for longer coats in winter
